A Brighton, Co., Soldier is competing in the Army Reserve’s prestigious “Best Warrior Competition” at Fort McCoy, Wis., 13-17 July. Spc. Christopher D. Nelson, an infantryman with the 104th Division, is one of only 28 Soldiers in the 206,000-strong Army Reserve selected to compete.
Nelson has deployed to both Afghanistan and Iraq. He was a gunner and a driver and was decorated for his actions in combat with an Army Commendation Medal, and a Combat Infantryman Badge.
Nelson comes from a long line of military service. His father was an MP with the 4th Infantry Division in the 1970s, his grandfather served in the Korean War as a Navy mechanic on the USS BOXER, and uncles served in both WWII and Vietnam. Nelson “joined the Army to give something back.”
In his civilian occupation, Nelson is a security guard at Lockheed Martin. He is currently attending American Military University pursuing a degree in Intelligence.
“Never forget those who gave their lives in support of the global war on terrorism,” said Nelson.
