The top NCO and Soldier will go on to represent the Army Reserve to the entire Army, active, reserve and National Guard, at the final “Best Warrior” Competition to be held Sept. 28 – Oct. 2, 2009 at Fort Lee, Va.

Twenty-eight Army Reserve Warriors will face rigorous tests that challenge their Soldier skills, character and abilities in every aspect. Throughout the competition, Warriors will take the Army Physical Fitness Test consisting of push-ups, sit-ups and a two mile-run; a written examination on general military topics, a graded essay on an assigned topic, firing M-4 rifles for qualification, negotiating day and night Urban Warfighting Orienteering courses, evaluation in a number of critical Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills, Army Combatives Tournament and a Mystery Event.

The Warriors will also face selection boards in front of their Army Reserve peers. The boards will evaluate each Soldier’s appearance, military bearing and knowledge in a number of key areas.

Their military backgrounds and experience are varied across the board. Half of the Warriors have deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and the Horn of Africa.

Their military occupations include infantry, military police, healthcare, mechanics, human resources, intelligence, engineers, paralegal, chaplain assistant, carpentry and masonry specialists.

They also represent a wide cross-section of America. This year’s Warriors hail from Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Guam.

The winners will be announced at an awards dinner on July 17 at the American Legion Post in Sparta, Wis. The awards dinner starts at 5 p.m. central time.
