Sgt. Joshua Skelton spent two years in Iraq supporting the Army Reserve

A Montevallo, Ala., Soldier is competing in the Army Reserve’s prestigious “Best Warrior Competition” at Fort McCoy, Wis., 13-17 July.  Sgt. Joshua Skelton, a human resources sergeant with the 4th Brigade, 75th Division out of Birmingham, Ala., and a 2003 graduate of Jemison High School, is one of only 28 Soldiers in the 206,000-strong Army Reserve selected to compete.

Skelton has deployed twice to Iraq, in 2005-6 to FOB Warhorse and again in 2007-8 (FOB Hammer).  He was a brigade personnel/human resources clerk, processing awards, maintaining personnel accountability and records, and designing programs.  He has been awarded the Army Comemmendation Medal three times.

Skelton stated that he is competing in the Best Warrior Competition because he enjoys the challenge and wants to represent his unit as best as he can.

“Being in the Army Reserve has made me stronger –I have a life as a civilian, and a life as a Soldier,” said Skelton. 

“I joined the Reserve because I wanted to give something back to this great country.”
